Poudre River Guide Races 2008  
(June 30, River gauge @ 4.0)

The Guide races for 2008 were the wildest yet!  The River was flowing at 4.0 on the gauge which is high and mighty water.  RMA came up with a unique strategy to win the coveted “Golden Groover award” away from A-1 Wildwater who had won it the previous 2 years.  They used a longer raft and added 2 additional paddlers over all the other companies. This strategy looked like it was going to work as the 2 extra paddlers shot the raft into a nearly impossible lead right from the start.  Meanwhile, the A-1 team had gotten bumped into an eddy and emerged in last place.  RMA had almost a half mile lead  over the next closest raft at the one third mark but then the A-1 guides started moving up from last place.  By the final 3rd of the race, the A-1 team had overtaken the other companies to achieve 2nd place but were still well behind the RMA team.  Near Hewlett bridge the A-1 guides caught up with the RMA guides but were successfully blocked from the lead for quite a while and actually had to push the RMA boat along for a ways before they could take the lead.  Once the A-1 guides took the lead they left the other companies in the dust (even while on a raging river!) and never looked back.  The A-1 guides ended the race pretty much as the last 3 years with about a quarter mile lead as they emerged from the gigantic rapids of pineview falls near the end of the race.  The race is a great test of river knowledge and skill at negotiating rapids and for the 3rd year in a row the A-1 Wildwater guides have triumphed!

Poudre River Guide Races 2007
(June 22, held on the summer solstice; Gauge @ 3.8)

The following pictures show the various companies at the starting gates and then continue downriver.  The race culminates just below Pine View falls which is the biggest rapid on the river for commercial rafting.  A-1 Wildwater was in 3rd place at 3-Rock rapid (first major rapid), but soon overtook the other rafts and were never really challenged after that.  The A-1 Wildwater lead boat is the yellow raft and at groover rapid the next company (yellow) can barely be seen.  At Pine view falls the A-1 Wildwater guides are so far ahead that no other rafts can be seen as the full rapid is negotiated.  The picture of the winning crew members with the yellow A-1 Wildwater raft is as follows: Bottom row sitting from left; Doug Blake, Robert Breckenridge (Owner), Joe Duffy (Manager), Nelson Greenlee.  Top row from left: Chris Coats, Ryan Turner, Cody Law, Uldis Juanarajas.
